Strokes, screens and stories
An HSK1 course built on Chinese history, calligraphy and real conversation pulled straight from Chinese drama — not another 15-chapter textbook grind.
Same HSK1, same 24 hours — taught two very different ways
The typical HSK1 class
- Chapter 1 to chapter 15, in order
- Vocabulary lists to memorise cold
- Characters copied, not understood
- Grammar drilled with no real context
- You pass the test, then freeze in real conversation
This class
- 8 real-life themes, built around how people actually talk
- Every character traced to its history and radical story
- Guided calligraphy — you learn to write, not just recognise
- Grammar heard first in Chinese drama clips, then practised aloud
- You pass the test, and you can actually hold a conversation
What makes it different
History & culture, woven in
Every unit opens with the story behind the words — from family naming customs to the 24 solar terms — so vocabulary sticks because it means something.
Calligraphy & character writing
Proper stroke order, radical logic and brush practice each session — you leave able to write, not just trace.
Learn from Chinese drama
Real dialogue clips replace robotic textbook scripts — you train your ear on natural speed, tone and slang from day one.
What we're doing, week by week
One theme a week, roughly 3 hours split across two sessions — small enough that everyone speaks, every class.
Hello, who are you
Greetings, names and identity — with the history of Chinese surnames and your first strokes: 一 二 三 人 大.
Family at the table
Family vocabulary and structure, filial piety in Chinese culture, and radicals 女 子 父.
Numbers, dates and the zodiac
Counting, time and dates, the Chinese calendar and zodiac, writing 年 月 日 and number characters.
Tea, rice and a restaurant table
Food and drink vocabulary, the tea ceremony, and radicals 米 茶 水.
Buying and bargaining
Shopping and money, the history of Chinese currency and characters 钱 买 卖.
Finding your way
Directions and places, a walk through Beijing's hutongs, and radicals 门 口 道.
Weather and the seasons
Talking about weather, the 24 solar terms, and characters 天 雨 雪.
Putting it all together
Full role-play, a mock HSK1 speaking round, and a calligraphy showcase — you write a short line with your own hand.
Enrol in HSK1, taught differently
24–25 hours total. Full HSK1 syllabus covered and exam-ready — plus history, calligraphy and real conversation you'll actually use.
